What if the address on my retirement account is outdated?

This applies when your address has changed, and your retirement provider has not been updated with your current address.

What to do

While some providers may initiate the transfer without updating the address as long as you are able to verify it (i.e. recall it from memory), others may need you to update it first. Depending on the provider, this may include

  1. Verifying your identity to the provider over the phone
  2. Providing evidence of your new address - such as an updated driver’s license
  3. Filing out paperwork required by the provider
Processing the address change could be instantaneous, or take 2-3 business days after all the required paperwork has been submitted. Once processed, we will get on a follow-on call with the provider to initiate the transfer.

Some providers require a hold period of one to two weeks after an address change - Don’t worry! We will schedule accordingly.
